Wither the Piggy Bank? More Fruit of Multiculturalism in Britain

If any more evidence that the real point of "multiculturalism" is the dismantling of Western culture and civilization was needed the latest cultural skirmish from Britain serves nicely to illustrate the point. What could be more non-controversial than a child’s piggy bank? The sort of piggy bank that children in England and America have been tossing their change into for decades. Who could possibly be offended by that?

No, not overweight feminists, protesting symbols of capitalist patriarchy, though it probably just hadn’t occurred to them yet. And no, not even PETA (though it would seem a natural for them). No, the answer is Muslims. And, if the mandarins of the politically correct have their way, the English culture will have to banish the piggy bank to satisfy immigrants.

British banks are banning piggy banks because they may offend some Muslims.

Halifax and NatWest banks have led the move to scrap the time-honoured symbol of saving from being given to children or used in their advertising, the Daily Express/Daily Star group reports here.

Muslims do not eat pork, as Islamic culture deems the pig to be an impure animal.

Salim Mulla, secretary of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, backed the bank move.

"This is a sensitive issue and I think the banks are simply being courteous to their customers," he said.

And what about the sensibilities of the majority of English people who have been living in their country for the better part of two millenia? What about their culture and their preferences? Apparently, that sort of thing doesn’t matter. In the religion of multiculturalism, only the sensitivities no non-Westerners count. Any desire of Westerners to hold on to their traditions is simply reflexive racism or, in this case, Islamophobia.

Yet the move to ban piggy banks may be one step too far.

However, the move brought accusations of political correctness gone mad from critics.

"The next thing we will be banning Christmas trees and cribs and the logical result of that process is a bland uniformity," the Dean of Blackburn, Reverend Christopher Armstrong, said.

"We should learn to celebrate our difference, not be fearful of them."

Christmas trees are more of an endangered species than Rev. Armstrong would probably like to admit. But banning piggy banks seems stupid even to some Muslims.

Khalid Mahmoud, the Labour MP for a Birmingham seat and one of four Muslim MPs in Britain, also criticised the piggy-bank ban.

"We live in a multicultural society and the traditions and symbols of one community should not be obliterated just to accommodate another," Mr Mahmoud said.

"I doubt many Muslims would be seriously offended by piggy banks."

Actually, if even just one person is offended, multiculturalists see that as justification for banning the offending object (so long as the offended party is a non-Westerner). MP Mahmoud’s error is to accept the commonly advertised definition of multiculturalism without understanding its true intention. Obliterating one set of traditions – Western ones – is exactly the point of the whole exercise. The leftists who dreamt up multiculturalism as a Trojan horse knew well what they were doing when they unleashed it. And unlike most leftist ideas, it’s actually working, slowing gnawing away at the culture it was meant to destroy.

How come any desecration of the Koran is met with worldwide condemnation, yet a crucifix soaked in urine is considered art?
